“HARD WORK BEATS TALENT WHEN TALENT DOESN’T WORK HARD” by Tim Notke is one of my favourite quotes when I question myself what is more important to succeed in anything you do – Talent or Working Hard(Good Work Ethic)?
“当天才不努力时，努力可以打败天才 ” 这是Tim Notke的一句名言。先天的天赋，还是后天的努力（优秀的专业精神），到底哪个对于成功更重要？每当我想到这个问题时，这句话就浮现在我脑海里。
“As a coach, I will always choose the Working Hard (Good Work Ethic) option because it not only helps the kids improve their football skills but it also helps them to become a better person and to deal with day to day situations off the pitch.
作为一名足球教练，我的答案永远都是后天的努力（优秀的足球精神）更重要，因为它不仅仅可以使孩子们在足球技巧上得到提升，更重要的是帮助他们塑造一个卓越的人格，来面对漫长的人生中的不同境遇。”

WHAT DOES A GOOD WORK ETHIC MEAN FOR A YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYER?
对于一个踢球的孩子来说，优秀的足球精神到底是什么呢？

01 ALWAYS ON TIME 如期而至
Being on time for the training or match. 15min before match/training = on time
准时参加训练和比赛。准时的意思是提前15分钟到场。
02 BEING PREPARED 粮草先行
Always have your full equipment (training/match kit, shin pads, training shoes) with you and water to drink because if do all the things mentioned below, you will definitely need a drink.
准备好所有比赛和训练装备，包括训练/比赛队服（球衣+球袜），护腿板，足球鞋等。一定要准备好水，等你看完下面的内容就知道为什么了。
03 BEING COACHABLE 孺子可教
It’s not easy for any young kid to be a good listener but it’s one of the key things when it comes to learning.
对于年龄比较小的孩子来说，认真听讲并按教练指导的去做，并不是一件容易事，但如果孩子想学习，这又恰恰是最重要的事情之一。
04 EFFORT 自强不息
Work hard and try your best from the first to the last minute of the training session or match.
无论是比赛还是在训练，都用尽全力努力拼搏到最后一秒。
05 ATTITUDE 积极向上
Never give up and always focus on the positive side. Never be afraid to try something new. A great attitude maximizes the talent that you do have and make up for what you lack.
保持积极的心态，永远别放弃，大胆地去尝试新的东西。一个积极向上的心态能帮助孩子最大程度地发挥天赋，并弥补孩子的短板。
06 TEAMWORK 精诚团结
Football is a team game, there is no place for selfishness. Treat your teammates/opponents the way you want to be treated.
在足球的世界里从来没有“自私”的位置，你若想得到队友/对手的支持和帮助，先学会支持和帮助别人。
07 RESPECT 以礼相待
Show Respect to coaches, teammates, opponents, officials and everybody around you. Words like Thank You and Please are welcomed.
尊重教练、队友、对手、工作人员和身边的每一个人。像“请”“谢谢”这样的词语，应该常常挂在嘴边。尊重他人就是尊重自己。
08 DOING EXTRA 业精于勤
Practice at home the skills you learn in training.
在家里经常练习训练课上学到的东西，在别人看不到的地方付出更多的努力。
Kids that put the effort in to become better and work well with others will succeed at bettering themselves. Will they be the best? Maybe not. But youth sports help to teach children that you don’t always have to be the one holding the trophy to succeed. Sometimes just getting better than you were the week before is considered success as well. Both coaches and parents play a part in building this mentality both on the field and at home.
所谓成功，是孩子在成长的路上通过自身努力获得的进步，是不断遇见更好的自己。他们会成为最棒的吗？这个不一定。但可以确定的是，青少年运动可以让孩子们懂得，不是说只有拿了冠军才叫成功，通过自己的努力不断提高和进步也是成功。要培养孩子优秀的足球精神以及理解成功的意义，需要我们教练和家长们，在球场上，在家里，一起支持孩子！
