CSKA Moscow have been playing competitive football for a few weeks now, picking up six points from their opening three league games.
The hosts are regulars in this competition, AEK Athens, meanwhile, are participating in their first Champions League campaign since the 2007/08 season, where they were eliminated at this stage and went on to make it to the UEFA Cup knockout rounds. They returned to Europe for the first time since 2011 last year, only to be knocked out in the Europa League 3rd qualifying round by Saint Etienne. They have lost seven of their last nine away days in the competition and failed to score in six of them.
