A new port was officially put into use Tuesday to facilitate travel between Macao and Zhuhai, south China's Guangdong Province, marking a new milestone towards boosting the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
为方便澳门和广东省珠海市之间的交通，一个新港于周二正式投入使用，这标志着推动粤港澳大湾区发展的一个新的里程碑。
Dubbed a "super passage," the main working area of the Hengqin port has a total floor surface of 450,000 square meters, equivalent to 63 football fields. It has been designed to welcome a maximum capacity of 222,000 daily passengers, which can help ease off some of the pressure on the Gongbei Port and ultimately improve passenger flow between Guangdong and Macao.
横琴港主工作区被称为“超级通道”，总建筑面积45万平方米，相当于63个足球场。它的设计最大吞吐量为每日22.2万人次，这将有助于缓解拱北口岸的部分压力，并最终改善粤澳之间的客流。
The Gongbei Port has long been the main passenger channel between Zhuhai and Macao. In 2019, a total of 145 million passengers crossed the port, ranking first in China for eight consecutive years.

However, the Gongbei Port has also been running far beyond the capacity it was initially designed for, thus resulting in a series of issues such as prolonged queuing time and slow customs clearance procedures. As a flagship project of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Hengqin Port significantly simplifies those procedures.

This new project lays a solid foundation for deepening the Guangdong-Macao cooperation and advancing the building of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," said Ma Xingrui, governor of Guangdong province.
新口岸的开通，将进一步加强粤澳互联互通，为粤澳人员往来和经贸往来提供更加便利、快捷、周到的服务，为横琴新区发展注入新的动力。
广东省省长马兴瑞表示:“这个新项目为深化粤澳合作、推进粤港澳大湾区建设奠定了坚实基础。”
Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), believes this new initiative enriches and aligns with the “one country, two systems” principal.

Chinese authorities first announced the outline for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in February 2019, aiming to build the region into a role model of high-quality development and relationships.

The Greater Bay Area consists of Hong Kong, Macao and nine cities of the Guangdong Province.
