Voter Fatigue. Same reason as why LeBron only has 4 MVP awards, and none since 2013, despite clearly being the best player in the league over that period, by a large margin. When you set your own standards so ridiculously high, people just come to expect that from you, and it becomes normalized, despite the fact that you’re head and shoulders above everyone else.

it's *ucfk**ing incredible. He carried Barcelona so hard last season, they played poorly for most of the season, and without Messi saving them in so many occasions the league race would have been a lot closer.
There is not a single statistic that Ronaldo outperformed Messi in last season. Not goals, not assists, not key passes, not amount of dribbles completed. But he was better in a handful of CL-games(also playing for a team that is specialized in the Champions League). Messi has always been the more talented individual, and Ronaldo's chance was to outscore him, and when he doesn't do that there is no argument left

太他妈难以置信了。上赛季一人carry巴萨，他们一整个赛季发挥都不怎么样，要是没有梅西救场的话联赛指不定会有多惊险。
上赛季C罗也没有一项数据指标超过梅西的。进球、助攻、关键传球、盘带成功全都被压制。但是他在个别几场欧冠比赛里发挥更出色（而且效力的还是一支欧冠基因的球队）。梅西一直都是更具天赋的个人，而C罗唯一的机会就是要比梅西进更多球，当C罗连进球都不如的时候，还有什么争议吗

Honestly not sure what claim Salah has over him. No trophies compared to a double, Messi was the better performer this season and had a better world cup too. Salah got further in the CL but that's about it.
