考点、but 的用法
1. 用作连词，连接两个并列成分，表示转折，意为"但是，然而" 。
I'm very tired, but I'm very happy.
我很累，但很开心。
I like apples, but my brother doesn't like them.
我喜欢吃苹果，但我弟弟不喜欢。
注意：but不能与though/although连用。
Though he is young, he experiences a lot.=He is young, but he experiences a lot.
尽管他很年轻，但他经历很多。
2. 用作介词，与nothing, no, no one等表示否定意义的词连用，意为"除……之外" 。
注意：but前如果有行为动词do的某种形式，那么but后接动词原形do，否则要接to do，也就是"有do无to，有to无do"。There was nothing much to do in the evening but read.
在晚上除了读书之外，没有事情可做。

(3)用于表示歉意的语句后，引起一个分句，but本身无意义。

(4) not ...but... 意为"不是……而是…… "。
He isn't a teacher but a doctor.
他不是一名老师而是一名医生。
This schoolbag isn't mine but hers.
这个书包不是我的，是她的。
(5) 用于短语not only…but also…中用于连接两个并列的成分，意为"不仅……而且……"，其中的also有时可以省略。
She not only sings well, but also dances well.
她不仅歌唱得好，而且舞跳得好。
He can speak not only English but also Japanese.
他不仅会说英语还会说日语。
not only…but also…连接两个成分作主语，谓语要遵循"就近原则"。
Not only the students but also their teacher likes the film.
不仅学生们而且他们的老师也喜欢这部影片。
Not only I but also Tom and Mary enjoy playing computer games.
不仅我而且汤姆和玛丽也喜欢玩电脑游戏。
