WHAT RUBEN’S PARENTS SAY:

鲁本母亲的讲述：

We were pilgrims searching for answers since my son was one year old. We went from one ophthalmologist to another, until our pediatrician referred us to an expert in these kinds of problems.

儿子一岁大时，我们就一直在寻找治疗方法。我们找了一个又一个眼科医生，直到有人，给我们推荐了一名儿童眼科专家。

The pediatric ophthalmologist said that we must patch the good eye for 6 hours a day. The patching was very difficult because as a baby, Ruben removed the patch all the time and his skin became very irritated. It was very frustrating to see our son suffer like this!

这位专家说，我们必须每天遮盖好眼6小时。但幼儿遮盖很困难，鲁本会一直摘掉眼罩，他的皮肤也因此过敏。看到儿子受苦，自己心里也很难受！

We went to the optometry clinic to see Salvador and Aurora for an evaluation. We were very surprised and sad when they found my son had only 20/80 visual acuity in his lazy eye. It was terrible for us to think that if something bad happened to his good eye, my son would be almost blind!

我们去了眼视光诊所，找萨尔瓦和奥罗拉医生进行检查。检查发现儿子弱视眼视力只有0.25时，我们非常惊讶和悲伤。我们想，要是好眼万一出了什么问题，儿子不就跟失明一样！

Salvador and Aurora gave us hope, explaining that there is a specific optometric vision therapy program that can be successful without using a patch at all. Instead of just working on the eye, the goal was to teach his brain to use his vision.

萨尔瓦和奥罗拉医生给了我们希望，他们说可以进行视觉训练，而且不用遮盖。训练不仅是针对眼睛本身，而且是教会大脑如何使用他的眼睛。

The optometric vision therapy program took place once each week, with therapy procedures to do at home every day. Ruben has not yet completed his therapy program, but after only 6 months, my son’s vision is now 20/25!

训练每周在诊所进行一次，同时每天在家训练。6个月后，鲁本的视力就恢复到0.8！

OPTOMETRIC DATA AND OPTOMETRIST’S COMMENTS:

验光数据和医生的讲述：

Ruben came to our office in Andujar for a second opinion. He had a diagnosis with Brown’s syndrome, strabismus, amblyopia, and torticolis when he was 2 years old. He had strabismus surgery and afterwards they began with occlusion.

鲁本来诊所，是想多听听医生的意见。2岁时，他被诊断患有布朗综合征、斜视、弱视和斜颈，做过斜视手术，术后开始遮盖。

We found visual acuity of 20/80 in one eye and 20/25 in the other eye. Ruben had strabismus with esotropia and hypertropia (eye goes in and up), and he had no fusion or stereopsis at all. Ruben’s entire visual system was unbalanced, and he had no idea how to control his eyes.

我们检查发现，鲁本一只眼视力0.25，另一只眼0.8。有内斜和上斜，没有融合，没有立体视，视觉系统失去平衡。鲁本根本不知道，如何控制自己的眼睛。

In 6 months, Ruben’s visual acuity in his amblyopic eye has improved to 20/25 at distance and 20/20 at near. He now has fusion and the beginning of stereopsis. We are continuing the therapy and working very hard to help Ruben achieve to his maximum potential.

6个月后，鲁本弱视眼视力看远0.8，看近1.0。有了初步融像和立体视。治疗还在继续，我们希望鲁本继续提高。
