我们常说的“hospital”指的是综合性大医院，维基百科上的定义如下。

“go to hospital”一般意味着病得非常严重，必须住院接受治疗。所以感冒发烧之类的小问题，外国人更常说“go to the doctor”或者“see a doctor”。因为国外一般有完备的家庭医生体系，如果是小毛病，直接预约去医生的诊所（clinic）就诊就可以。
