Chinese people believe that celebrating the lunar new year with lion dance and drum performance can bring a prosperous year, thus lion dance in Spring Festival is typical of Chinese New Year.
常言道：有狮则兴，有鼓则盛，没有舞狮的春节，算不上过年。
On February 18, Zhengzhou 2019 Folk Arts Competition - the Lion Dance Performance & Lion Dance Championship was held at Ruyi Lake Cultural Square in Zhengdong New District. The Xiaoxiang lion dance was performed by Li Jintu, inheritor of national intangible cultural heritage, his sons and his grandsons, with 56 big drums and 34 cymbals cheering for them. In the air, six big lions spiraled up, poising, moving, putting on breathtaking stunts; on the ground, 6 little lions wriggled and jumped, playing and frolicking, winning rounds of applause from the audience. In the end, Xiaoxiang lion dance won the first place in the first prize.
2月18日，郑州市2019年民间文艺大赛舞狮展演暨狮王争霸邀请赛在郑东新区如意湖文化广场举行。小相狮舞国家级非遗传承人李金土祖孙三代齐登场，56面大鼓、34副镲为小相狮舞表演加油助威。空中，6架大狮子盘旋而上，时而蓄势，时而腾挪，各种高难度动作悬念迭出；地面，6架小狮子翻腾跳跃，嬉戏玩闹，赢得了在场观众的阵阵喝彩。最终，小相狮舞摘得一等奖第一名。
Chinese people like boisterous scenes. Roaring gongs and drums, setting off firecrackers, red lanterns up high, and huge crowds make a hilarious Spring Festival or temple fair. Lion dance is especially indispensable, with sonorous drum and rolling jubilant lions, showing a lively excitement in every act.
中国人喜欢热闹，每逢过年或者庙会，锣鼓喧天，鞭炮齐鸣，红灯高挂，人山人海,才够年味儿，舞狮更是不可或缺的项目，铿锵有力的鼓点，打滚欢腾的狮子，举手投足间都透着一股热闹劲儿。
Xiaoxiang lion dance is a recreational activity of Xiaoxiang Village, Luzhuang Town, Gongyi, Zhengzhou. It has won the titles of "the best lion dance in the central plains" and "the best lion dance in China" successively. In 2008, it was named as "national intangible cultural heritage" by the State Council. On festive occasions, especially during the Chinese New Year and major temple fairs, the team would dance the "lions" on the sites, while beating drums.
小相狮舞是郑州市巩义市鲁庄镇小相村全村人的业余文艺活动，先后获得“中原第一狮”“中华第一狮”等称号，2008年被国务院命名为“国家级非物质文化遗产”。每逢喜庆节日，特别是农历春节和重大庙会，这支队伍就会敲锣打鼓舞动“狮子”，出现在活动的现场。
As the representative of lion dance in the central plains, Xiaoxiang lion dance, characterized by its grand scene, lively, highly-skilled and smooth performance, is good at showing the playful and humorous nature of the lions. Through bold, vigorous and powerful movements, it shows the lions’ power and strength, valour and vigour.
小相狮舞作为中原狮舞的代表，以洒脱大方、稳重细腻见长，擅长表现狮子的顽皮、诙谐。通过大幅度粗犷、刚劲有力的舞姿来刻画狮子威武、刚烈的气质和勇猛、传神的灵性。
The lion dance is called "the soul of the village" by the villagers of Xiaoxiang Village. Most families in the village have grown an indissoluble affection with the lion dance. The villagers have a strong sense of participation, almost every male in the past generations can perform lion dance. Those who cannot perform on the stage will do some service work. From Qing Dynasty (1796-1820 AD) until now, more than two hundred years, the succession of the lion dance has produced many famous lion dance artists. Some of them, such as Li Jingwang, Li Jingzhu, Cui Pengfei, Cui Yilin and Yang Mingfei, have been named as representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in Zhengzhou.
狮舞被小相村民喻为“村魂”，村里绝大多数家庭，都跟狮舞结下了不解的渊源，人们的参与意识极强，尤其是历代男性几乎都会狮舞。不能登台表演的，也会做些服务性的工作。从清嘉庆到如今的200余年间，小相狮舞的传人延续不断，产生了许多名气颇大的狮舞艺人。其中不乏新秀，如李京王、李京主、崔朋飞、崔依林和杨明飞等，已被命名为省、市非物质文化遗产项目代表性传承人。
Xiaoxiang lion dance has a long history and superb skills. Known as the hometown of lion dance, Xiaoxiang Village is the birthplace of high-altitude lion dance, which is the first of its kind in China. In January 2019, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China released the 2018-2020 list of "villages of Chinese folk culture and art", and Luzhuang Town, which declared with "Xiaoxiang lion dance" is in the list.
小相村作为远近闻名的狮舞之乡，小相狮舞历史悠久技艺高超，首创开辟狮艺历史先河的高空狮舞在此发源，享誉中外。2019年1月份，文化和旅游部公示了2018~2020年度“中国民间文化艺术之乡”名单，以“小相狮舞”申报的鲁庄镇名列榜中。
