Now you can take something for granted, or you can take someone for granted

and it means you don't recognize or notice them.

The sky where I live is very, very blue, but sometimes I take that for granted.

That means I don't always notice how blue the sky is behind me.

My mom worked really hard when I was a kid to feed us

So when you take something or someone for granted,

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase “to be taken aback”.

When you're taken aback, you're I'm kind of acting it out.

You don't actually back up like this, but when you're taken aback,
你实际上不会像这样后退 但当你大吃一惊时
it means you're surprised or shocked about something.

You might go to buy a new car

and then you're taken aback at how much the car costs.

Maybe I was taken aback the other day at the gas station

because the gas was $1.38 the Thursday before the long weekend,
