文学翻译贵在“传神”。所谓“传神”，就是把原文的意思表达得非常准确，意境展现得非常逼真、鲜活，让人读后产生一种拍案叫绝的冲动。 要实现这一目标，除了具备深厚的语言功底，学习和掌握一定的翻译技巧也是非常有益的。

1969年7月20日，尼尔·阿姆斯特朗和巴兹·奥尔德林驾驶登月舱登陆月球，作者麦克·柯林斯则驾驶指令舱在月球轨道上绕飞、接应。在此期间，柯林斯有时候必须通过地球中转才能与月球上的宇航员通话，但信号中转有时间延迟，有时候就会造成某种不便。以下是作者的描述：

During the thirteen minutes, I can talk directly to the LM. At other times, when I am on the front side of the moon (but out of sight of the LM), I can talk to them via earth, if Houston's switches are set properly to relay our conversation. 难点分析和翻译技巧：

这个句子并不复杂，理解上也没有什么困难，这里的关键点在于 side effects 的传神翻译。

Side effect 是个常用词，我们都知道它的意思是“副作用”，但“副作用”在我们的句子里显然不适用。如果翻译成“不利影响”，语气又显得过重。所以，我们在翻译时一定要根据当时的场景，仔细拿捏（当然，这需要深厚的汉语功底）。

试译：

在这13分钟里，我可以直接和登月舱通话；在月球前面的其他时间里，我可以通过地球中继和他们通话（如果休斯敦把相应的中继开关打开的话）。无线电信号的传输速度是每秒186000英里（光速），到达地球的时间大约是1.25秒，中继返回的时间也是一样。 这种延迟有时也会带来一些有趣的尴尬。 例如，登月舱着陆后，休斯敦告诉尼尔说：“这间屋子里和世界各地都有很多的笑脸。完毕。”尼尔回答道：“这里还有两位呢。”2.5秒后我才听到，于是我立刻说道：“别忘了指令舱里的这位。”但此时休斯敦已经听到了尼尔并回答道：“收到。你们干得漂亮！”这时我的话才到达休斯敦，这让我非常尴尬——我本来只是想让他们知道指令舱里还有一张笑脸，结果变成了想让他们表扬自己也干得漂亮。
