今天，IGN“经过长时间的考虑”，推出了2018年最新版游戏历史上“排名前100的游戏”。
IGN也列出了他们的评选标准：
“因为要纯粹地将老游戏与现在的3A游戏作比较是不公平的，因此我们的评选标准聚焦于游戏在其范围内给予了玩家多少程度的不同体验；在其所处的时代条件下，又多少前瞻性与开创性的设计；以及游戏发行至今经过添加和修改后，有了多少更好的游戏体验”。
值得一提的是，在新的评价体系下，有些游戏相较之前的排名都有大幅升高才占据了更高的位置，而前三名的游戏《超级马里奥世界》、《塞尔达时之笛》和《传送门》都是这种情况。
