The other day, I had a coming call from a "friend" at the National Museum of China, saying that he would be making a debut in a show aired on China Central Television, beginning on July 23 (Monday).
Good for him. After all, he has been waiting for this moment for nearly 2,000 years.

Look at his position since birth. How greatly he yearns for a debut in the center position.
This jolly Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-220) comedian should be no stranger to you if you've ever visited the permanent display of Ancient China at the National Museum.

Several of his "colleagues" were featured in the first season of the same show earlier this year,Every Treasure Tells a Story, which raved good reviews among the viewers.

The second season will make a comeback, and here is a trailer:
The lively clay figure, who beats a drum while singing and rapping, was unearthed near Chengdu in 1957, and stands 56 centimeters. It vividly tells a practice of ancient kings employing comedians.

These comedians often played a central role at royal feasts, entertaining guests with humorous performances and witty languages.
Not far from where the Eastern Dynasty comedian stands at the Ancient China exhibition is another star to be appearing inEvery Treasure Tells a Story— a bronze rhinoceros-shaped zun wine vessel.

It was excavated in Shaanxi in 1963, dated to the Western Han Dynasty.
While rhinoceroses have become endangered today, there were plentiful living on the extensive land of northeastern China in ancient times.

Rhinoceros bones have been found in Neolithic relic sites, huntings of the mammals were mentioned on the Shang Dynasty oracle bones, and armor made of rhinoceros hide were sought after among the armies.
And because of this excessive pursuit by human society, the population of wild rhinoceroses, with a low fertility rate, decreased sharply. They were almost extinct in the Middle Kingdom in late Western Han.
This bronze vessel, therefore, stands not only as a testament of the living of a lot of rhinoceroses in ancient China but also as a warning to us of the harms of massive wildlife hunting to ecological balance.
The posters ofEvery Treasure Tells a Story's first season were a favorite of many and here are some new ones for the second:
