“一张褪色的照片/好像带给我一点点怀念/巷尾老爷爷卖的热汤面/味道弥漫过旧旧的后园”，新生代小生李荣浩一边遭受着非议，一边怀揣着赞美，将对家乡的怀念放进左边上衣口袋，写下这首《老街》。有人说是蚌埠市区的太平街，有人说是华盛街，还有人说是西航校西边的胡同……
除了李荣浩，2016年的金马奖得主马思纯和老牌口碑演员蒋雯丽也是如假包换的蚌埠人。道路宽阔，山水环绕，车辆有序，清洁整齐，是蚌埠给外地人的第一印象。蚌埠这座“全国文明城市”，以铿锵的步伐，迈入新时代。

“A faded photo / brings me a feeling of nostalgia / the noodle soup Grandpa sells at the street corner / smells good over the old back garden,” those are the lyrics of the renowned Time-honored Street composed by Li Ronghao, a singer of the new generation who extols his hometown with this song. Some people say the street is Taiping Jie which is located in the urban area of Bengbu, while some say it is Huasheng Jie and some even say it is the Hutong situated to the west of the Bengbu Aviation University Air Force...
Besides Li Ronghao, Ma Sichun, winner of the Golden Horse Prize 2016 and Jiang Wenli, a prominent actress in China are also natives of Bengbu. The broad streets, the surrounding mountains and waters, vehicles driving in good order and the clean and tidy communities might be the first impression of the city to a stranger. Bengbu is a national model city of civilization developing in a determined and dynamic rate to the new era.

认识一座城市，必须要在它的马路上走一走，要去菜场逛一逛，在路边摊坐一坐，要掏出钱包，要为鸡零狗碎的生活买个单，哪怕是一日的。
对于外地人来说，在蚌埠的一日，可以感受到人行横道前机动车的礼让、出行条件的便利、老旧小区的变样……这些细节的变化，归功于近年来蚌埠市创建全国文明城市的付出。
去年11月，第五届全国文明城市名单公布，蚌埠市以全国第9、全省第2的综合成绩，成功入选。
全市236个老旧小区、39个农贸市场、38条主次干道、7个广场公园、5条商业大街、12个重点乡镇完成了整治改造提升任务，城乡环境焕然一新。
干净、整洁、有序的环境，是蚌埠市区给人留下最深刻的印象。近年来，蚌埠市从整治环境入手，从热点难点问题出发，一大批“城市环境美容师”驻扎大街小巷，为城市商业美食街区量身打造良好的形象，实现了环境卫生整洁、全天保洁和垃圾袋装化。
内化于心、外化于行，文明成为最好的风景线。
从硬件上来说，是城市外在的提升，从软件上来说，是居住在其中的人的改变。机动车礼让行人，夜晚很少能听到广场舞的喧闹，堵车时很少有焦躁的鸣笛声……气定神闲、不骄不躁，成了这座城市的内在气质。

To know a city, one must take a stroll on the street, get into a vegetable market or sit near roadside stalls…At least one must pay something trivial for the life, even it is only one day.
For a stranger, a one-day visit to Bengbu would be adequate enough to experience the civility of a driver to a pedestrian or the convenient traffic system as well as the impressive features within communities... All the reputable things about the city can be attributed to the efforts the city has made in recent years to integrate itself into a national model city of civilization.
Bengbu was listed as one of the 5th national model cities of civilization last November, ranking 9th nationwide and 2nd in Anhui Province in the selection.
The city has taken on a new look for it has now completed the renovation and upgrading of 236 run-down street blocks, 39 farm produce markets, 38 roads, 7 plaza parks, 5 commercial streets and 12 towns.
The clean, uncluttered streets and the ordered traffic give people the deepest impression of the city. In recent years, the city has stationed a great number of “city beauticians” on the street to address the hard and hot-topic environmental issues. In order to highlight the image of commercial streets and food courts, the city has specially tailored some measures for customers such as better sanitation, all-day-long cleaning and garbage bag providing.
Keep virtue in heart and demonstrate it in behavior. Civility becomes the best cityscape of Bengbu.
Externally, we see the progress of the city and internally we feel the change in the mentality of the people. Vehicles now politely give way to pedestrians and people seldom hear the noise generated from square dances in the evening or horns from vehicles in a temporary traffic jam... Keeping calm, being peaceful and free from arrogance and rashness has become the feature of the city which is fully hailed by the people.

Antecedently when talking about glass, we were only familiar with glassware. However, Bengbu Design & Research Institute for Glass Industry Co., Ltd has continuously renewed our knowledge. It has stabilized the production of super-thin glass substrates in thickness of 0.3 mm, 0.2 mm, and even 0.15 mm, realizing its leapfrog development from “super-thin” to “ultra-thin”.
Like the improvement of glass substrate from 0.3 mm to 0.15 mm, the innovative development of Bengbu is always advancing towards perfection.
In 2008, the Anhui provincial Party committee and government approved the establishment of Hefei-Wuhu-Bengbu Independent Innovation Pilot Region for Comprehensive Reform and Bengbu became an important pole of innovation in Anhui. In 2014, Bengbu was approved as a first provincial innovation-oriented city on its way gradually to a national innovation city. In June 2016, the State Council approved the establishment of the National Hefei-Wuhu-Bengbu Independent Innovation Demonstration Region with hopes that it will be made into a pioneering region for sci-tech structural reform and policy innovation, an important platform for cooperation between high-caliber talent and innovative entrepreneurs and a clustering belt for new industries and new business forms. In July 2016, the State Council came to an agreement and authorized Anhui to systematically push forward pilot innovation and reform in an all-round way based on the experience of the Hefei-Wuhu-Bengbu Region.

在刚刚过去的全国*会两**的一次采访中，谈及蚌埠市的新材料产业，全国人大代表、蚌埠市市长王诚说：“硅基新材料，目前的产值是450亿元左右，用3~5年时间达到1000亿元的产值。生物基目前产值是200亿元，再用3~5年时间达到1000亿元，远期努力达到5000亿元。”王诚建议国家能支持蚌埠建设硅基新材料国家制造业创新中心，推动高新产品示范应用，努力把蚌埠打造成国家 “新材料之都”。
此外，蚌埠市依托玻璃工业设计研究院、丰原集团等企业，生产了铜铟镓硒薄膜太阳能电池、聚乳酸材料等高端产品，正在引领带动蚌埠市新材料产业迈向中高端水平。

By relying on independent innovation, the “new glass” industry has made a groundbreaking breakthrough in ultra-thin glass substrates and photovoltaic glass and it has produced a wide range of world-leading sci-tech achievements. The “new glass” industry represented by Bengbu Design & Research Institute for Glass Industry is based on the fact that the Bengbu-based China’s New Glass Material Sci-tech Industrial Park becomes stronger and stronger as the glass substrate being produced is made thinner and thinner.
When talking about the new material industry of Bengbu in an interview during the past national two sessions, Mayor Wang Cheng who is also a NPC deputy said, “the annual output value of new silicon substrate materials is about 45 billion yuan at present, and it is expected to be 100 billion yuan in the next 3 to 5 years. The current annual output value of biology base materials is 20 billion yuan and is anticipated to rise to 100 billion yuan in the next 3 to 5 years and will most likely increase to 500 billion yuan in the near future.”Wang Cheng appealed to the central government to support Bengbu in its hopes in becoming a national silicon substrate material innovation center so as the city can better promote the demonstration and application of new and high-tech products. In other words, the city will spare no efforts to make itself a “capital of new materials”.
In addition, by relying on the Bengbu Design & Research Institute for Glass Industry and BBCA Group, the city has been able to produce CIGS thin-film solar cells, polylactic material and other high-end products. The institute and the group are leading the new material industry of the city up to a higher level.

现在想想，怎样的一个地方才能算得上是“宜居”的？并非是商场林立，设施齐全，一个什么都有的综合体才能称得上“宜居”，于我而言，是出门半小时基本能到目的地，比如购物、就医、聚会，有可以散步的地方，也有可以阅读的地方，更重要的是，这个综合体，也能让你拥有散步的时间和阅读的时间。

依据这个标准，蚌埠则完全可以称得上是一个宜居之地。人口不算密集，每个人所享有的单位空间和单位时间则宽裕许多，仿佛人生也扩大了一个维度。
有山水，才有生活。2016年，蚌埠被评为国家级森林城市，森林城市不再是皖南的“专利”。

除了龙子湖风景区，蚌埠还拥有淮河蚌埠闸水利风景区、湖上升明月古民居博览园、大明文化产业园、花鼓灯嘉年华主题乐园、沱湖风景区和三叉河国家级湿地公园等*级A**景区。
先天不足，然而后天足够努力。古时的采珠之地，如今的新材料之都。是南北驿站，也是东西节点。这个分界线上的城市，让生活在这里的人，有一种归属感。所谓故乡，之于个体，最好的关系恐怕就是这样。

Now just think what kind of a place can be really called “livable”. It is not only a huge complex with shops, various facilities and amenities, but also a complex where people can easily access different destinations for daily necessities such as shops, hospitals, friend gatherings, leisure sports and places to read within half an hour. To me, in addition to all the above mentioned amenities, livable means a place in which I can have the time to stroll and read.
Based on this expectation, Bengbu can be regarded fully as a livable place, for the population there is not dense and each person can enjoy the comfort of a more capacious personal space. Life in Bengbu seems to be expanding to another dimension.
Where there are mountains and rivers there is life. In 2016, Bengbu was rated as a national forest city. The honor of “forest city” is no longer the exclusive “patent” of the cities in southern Anhui.
“For my growth covers every corner of the land there/ I can write down the impression of the city in 16 chapters / today, I will return to my hometown / and I will guide the way and get rid of all the annoying things / Yes, yes, that is Bengbu.” That was what Kang Shu, an independent musician living in Bengbu wrote in his Bengbu Underground 2016.
“It's seven o'clock in the morning by Longzi Lake / the freshness of the waters in the lake mix with the rap in my mind / welcome to the city of Bengbu/ that is my place and I am Kang Shu, the child of the Longzi Lake.” That is a welcome speech of the new generation.
In addition to the Longzi Lake Scenic Area, Bengbu has the Bengbu Sluice Water Conservancy Scenic Area along the Huaihe River and the Ancient Dwelling Exposition Park named Moon Rising over the Longzi Lake. Moreover, it has Daming Cultural and Industrial Park, the Carnival Theme Park dedicated to flower-drum lanterns, Tuohu Lake Scenic Area, Sancha River National Wetland Park and some other beautiful scenic spots.
With?insubstantial natural?endowment but hard work of the present people, this ancient land of pearls has been turned into a capital of new materials. Once a courier station between the north and the south and a node between the east and the west, it is now a glorious city on the dividing line between the south and the north of China. This is a place where local people can have a sense of belonging — probably this is the best relationship between a hometown and its natives.

Land of Rhythms

皖南有山水，皖北有古都。西尤遗址旧石器以及古菱齿象化石的发现，说明3万年前蚌埠地区已有人类在此生活；4200年前，大禹治水在这里劈山导淮； 2600年前，双墩钟离国君墓，印证了钟离这个神秘古国的存在；2200年前，楚汉之战……
蚌埠是淮河文化发祥地之一。7300年前，蚌埠市淮上区小蚌埠镇双墩村北就有人类生活的痕迹。双墩遗址中出土的双墩刻划符号，是中国文字博物馆的开篇，被认为是中国早期文字的重要起源。
不止于此，蚌埠还有三项国家级非物质文化遗产——被誉为 “东方芭蕾”的花鼓灯、受毛主席称赞的拉魂腔“泗州戏”、唱响维也纳金色大厅的五河民歌。
这些流动的韵律，唱的不仅是几千年来的文化传承，也是世世代代生活在淮河两岸的人们对家乡的情怀。

Southern Anhui is known for its beautiful landscape while the north of the province features ancient towns. The unearthed paleolithic artifacts from Xiyou Ruins and the discovery of the fossils of palaeoloxodon naumanni exhibited that Bengbu was inhabited with human beings dating as far back as 30,000 years ago. As the legend goes, Yu the Great, cut through a hill to drain out the flood in the Huaihe River 4,200 years ago; the tomb of King Zhongli in Shuangdun proves the existence of the mysterious ancient Zhongli Kingdom which is estimated to have existed 2,600 years ago; and the Battle between Chu and Han also happened there 2,200 years ago...
Bengbu is believed to be the birthplace of the Huaihe Culture. Traces of human life dating back to 7,300 years ago were discovered to the north of Shuangdun Village of Xiaobengbu Town in Huaishang District of the city. The unearthed Shuangdun Carved Symbols from the Shuangdun Ruins have been used in the introductory part to the National Museum of Chinese Writing and regarded as an important source of the early Chinese characters.
Moreover, Bengbu possesses three national intangible cultural heritages, i.e. Huagudeng, literally meaning “Flower-drum Lantern Dance” known as oriental ballet, Sizhou Opera that Chairman Mao once praised for its appealing tunes, and Wuhe Folk Songs that won international popularity in the Goldener Saal Wiener Musikvereins, Austria.
With these flowing rhythms, people there sing not only of the cultural inheritance over thousands of years, but also the sentiments of the generations living on both sides of the Huaihe River.
