​what经常用来表示“什么”，

cook有“烹饪、做饭”的意思。

但老外跟你说“What's cooking”，

可不是问你“煮什么好吃的”！

一、What's cooking?

在做什么？在忙什么？发生什么事？

老外经常用它来打招呼，

相当于我们常说的“最近在忙什么”。

【例句】

A：Hi! Susan. What's cooking?

嗨！苏珊，最近在忙什么？

B：Nothing. Anything happening with you?

没什么。你最近怎么样？

此外，见面打招呼问对方“最近怎样”，还可以这样说：

“What's up？”

最近怎样？过得好吗？

你好吗？最近怎样?

可不是说“什么把你给吃了”，

真正的意思是：

什么事把你惹了？谁惹你了？

【例句】

What's eating you, tom? You look upset?

谁惹你了？你好象情绪不好。

三、What's your beef?

不要理解成“你的牛肉怎么样”，

实际表示：你为什么不高兴？

【例句】

What's your beef today?You have been really mad all day.

你今天为什么不高兴？一整天都很生气。

四、What's his face?

不是说“他的脸长什么样？”

而是表示：他叫什么名字来着？

【例句】

What's his face, the guy with the yellow shirt？

他叫什么名字来着，那个穿黄色衬衫的男孩？

Have you seen what's his face?

见到那个谁了吗？

五、What's the big idea?

不是问你“这是什么大主意？”

真正的意思是：

你想干什么？什么意思？

你为什么这么做！
