Composed When I Return to My Old Home in Yangchow — To the Tune of Partridges in the Sky
By Ding Ning
Tr. ZHAO Yanchun
Back from lakes and seas, my sideburns turn gray;
From my bleak hut greenness spreads all the way.
Who might know that but a cat stays with me;
So worry-laden, I drink wine as tea.
Some chrysanthemums, some melons there grow;
I live, a rain-washed cape, a mist-tinged hoe.
Autumn falls, a free yard behind my room;
I plant no flowers that face the sun to bloom.
