The Enjoyment of Shopping
Shopping is fun for it involves various choices. Whether it is routine marketing① for groceries, purchasing trivial② necessities, or buying major items, shoppers have the opportunity of selecting and rejecting, of weighing values, and of using their own judgment.
Shopping trips also afford opportunities for social contacts③. Shoppers not only exchange pleasantries④ with clerks and cashiers, but also often meet friends and pause to visit with them. Sometimes, as they stroll⑤ along the streets looking in the shop windows, they meet friends whom they have not seen for a long time.
Still another nice feature of shopping is that there are always new items on display. Manufacturers are constantly⑥ producing new things to make our life easier, and shoppers can see models of appliances, necessities, and furniture that have attractive new features. Changing seasons bring variety into displays in flower shops, clothing stores, and fruit and vegetable markets. Shopping, therefore, becomes an expedition⑦ of discovery⑧. It is no wonder that people like it.
