Appreciation of the Yellow Crane Tower by Cui Hao

In junior high school, we all have learned a poem titled The Yellow Crane Tower composed by Cui Hao which is celebrated, and even made the fairy poet, Li Bai, ashamed. Every time I remind of it, I just couldn’t help myself reciting it repeatedly.
“The sage on yellow crane was gone amid clouds white.” “To what avail is Yellow Crane Tower left here?” The poem is started with the origin of the name of the tower and quotes the legend, which expressed a sincere feeling of regret for not seeing the ancients. Then the lines are stretching smoothly from here.
“Once gone, the yellow crane will never on earth alight,” “Only white clouds still float in vain from year to year.” Using the image of clouds, obviously, poet was trying to telling us that everything is boundless. These four lines above are mainly describing the mental activities of the poet.
“By sunlit river trees can be counted one by one;” “On Parrot Islet sweet green grass grows fast and thick.” These two lines are picturing the scenery which is overlooked from the top of the tower. It is so vivid and boundless.
“Where is my native land beyond the setting sun?” Suddenly, the poem switches the tone and comes directly with a doubt from the heart of a traveler away from home which is real impressively. “The mist-veiled waves of the river make me homesick.” This line answers the doubt and strengthens the emotion of homesick which is also the main idea of the whole poem.
Reviewing this poem reminds me of the situation of Wu Han city where lies The Yellow Crane Tower. The city is suffering from the COVID-19, which virus has been threatening the whole city and even the whole country. But we also witness the effort and the courage gathering closely of the whole country. We will surely win the fight soon and I hope we can wait for Wu Han, waiting that she comes vigorous again. And then, we can stand on the top of The Yellow Crane Tower and chant The Yellow Crane Tower together.
