Chihuahuas make one of the best pets for all ages. Being they are full of life, have amazing personalities and seeming boundless energy are an amazing companion. If you compare to a Great Dane, the chihuahua can actually burn almost three times the amount of energy per kilogram bodyweight. Be not fooled though, although they do need an energy dense food, being only 2.5kg they do not need much of it.

Letting your pet become overweight may have serious consequences with chihuahua particularly prone to heart and respiratory conditions.

Your chihuahua should be fed a consistent diet that is dense in calories (energy) and in protein. As they are only fed a small amount, it is important that “fillers” are minimised so that they can gain efficient energy and nutrients for muscle and bone growth.
