Pre AP Art and Design students learn it's not easy to make works of art and design, and these are the first but beautiful steps they made. We have to continually practice our technical skills, including the choice and use of materials while thinking about inquiry, expression, context, and meaning; every student had their art investigation, and every artwork is an answer to the essential question they chose. Beauty among the Weeds—— Pre 2A Niki
This painting's name is "Beauty among the weeds". The theme of this painting is a beautiful view in a world that maybe a little cruel. Because it is very difficult to see such landscape now. Therefore, people watching the beautiful scenery can only secretly hide in the forest to watch, because the beautiful landscape is limited, but also fragile. If you enter the beautiful scenery, may be like the modern environment polluted by human, immediately disappeared. I think others can also understand the theme, because this painting it is out of the order. You can see the forests，the fresh water lakes and sunset clouds in this artwork.

This work remind me a movie，the movie's name is "Flipped". There is a scene in the movie where the boy takes the girl to enjoy the scenery in a tree. That landscape was very romantic. I also want to the viewer to enjoy the beautiful scenery. But just do not try to break the beautiful scenery.

Drawing this picture, I hinted at the difficulty of seeing such a quiet and beautiful landscape now, and how much people are now destroying the environment. After I created this piece of work, I learned that it is important to figure out the structure of the painting, should not change the structure of the painting when you painted the painting.

Ocean—— Pre 2C Linus
The artwork that I made is mainly talking about a sky view of the ocean.

It's the first time I am trying to do Acrylic painting, I thought that it is not easy for a painting green hand to handle oil painting strategies. Such as the gesture of you painting bush, I am not able to control the bush well because it is different from the painting tools, pens and pencils are just using one point to produces a line. But the brush will produce different results with different gestures, and I need to handle the pigment of the brush when it needs more.
这是我第一次尝试做丙烯画，我以为一个绘画新手要掌握油画技巧并不容易。比如你画灌木丛的姿势，我无法很好地控制灌木丛，因为它与绘画工具不同，钢笔和铅笔只是用一个点来画一条线。但画笔会因为使用姿势不同而产生不同的效果，我需要在很多的时候处理画笔的颜料。
I am interested in photography, that is the reason why I choose a photographer view painting, it is like a drone view with a beach, the white space at the top of the painting could both represent the blue sky of the ocean and the sea level of the ocean. And the white blur in the middle of the painting is the whales that are crossing the ocean, the white part of it is the motion of wales.

For a common photographer, we used to show realistic photos for viewers, form our aspects, to show how beatific the world is. As an artist, we can show what kinds of a world that we like, the artwork came from our mind, not reality.

The ocean painting that I am showing to you is the second version of my artwork, the first one has been covered by white acrylics, it's an abstract theme painting, the color contrast between orange and blue, I am not able to control the color and the brush, that is the reason why I change the theme completely. After I cover all the acrylics, my friend Eric, witch is an artist, helped me a lot with my second version artwork. He taught me how to control the brush, how to mix two colors together, how to keep your painting clean.

I used blue color for most of my painting, I want to use blue color to represent how clean and pure the ocean is.

You can see, as the ocean gets deeper, at the same time the blue color gets deeper and deeper, some fishes swim together like a group.

Seal—— Pre 2C Yuki Lv
This was my first attempt at acrylic paint, so I found a copy in a little red book which is an app. The author's online name called brother Jing fell asleep. Its idea also inspired me to create this painting -- false self.

This picture got me thinking a little bit deeper.

When I face a new and unfamiliar environment, I instinctively put on a mask (like a mist covering my true self). Because I thought the mask would make me feel safe, even though it sometimes expressed my unreal feelings. It took a while for me to take off in front of the people who I trusted and knew and face them with my real face because I knew they would accept me and tolerate me. But wearing a mask for so long also hindered my ability to explore and understand my true self. It protects me, but it also seals me.

The gorgeous colors on the paintings are what most people like, they express my sometimes unreal emotions. These elements of social approval were like seals that trapped me, leaving only one eye through the fog.

Armor makes you feel safe, but it also makes you tired.

I think this is something I need to change slowly and be brave to be myself as I admire.

Rose Like Love—— Pre 2A Cecilia
I'm not particularly satisfied with my painting, because at the beginning, I didn't think about what to draw, so I couldn't start.

After a few classes, I happened to think of a song sung by Idol (Rose) I like very much. The name of this song is gone. There is a lyrics "all my love is gone". This song gave me some inspiration, so I named this painting "rose like love". This song is about a girl who decided to get out of sadness after breaking up, but its melody is not sad, Tell the sad and lonely story gently and delicately.
上了几节课后，我偶然想到了一首我非常喜欢的偶像（Rose）演唱过的歌曲。这首歌的名字不见了。有一句歌词是“我所有的爱都消失了”。这首歌给了我一些灵感，所以我把这幅画命名为“玫瑰般的爱”。这首歌讲述的是一个女孩在分手后决定走出悲伤，但它的旋律并不悲伤，温柔而细腻地讲述悲伤和孤独的故事。
There are three main colors in this painting: rose red, light pink and yellow. The hues of these three colors are too bright. My idea of choosing colors is also the feeling of this song. I want to describe a girl, so I chose a large area of pink. I painted love with half light pink and half rose red. I thought that light pink represented the love and gentle melody of girls in that song. Rose red represented the lyrics and decided to get out of the sadness and more mature mood after breaking up.I accept everyone's view, good or bad, because everyone's view is different. I also know the level of this painting very well.

Surdomute—— Pre 2A Yuki Ye
The name of this painting is Surdomute, which represents people who can't hear and speak. The theme of this painting is we should help the disabled rather than hurting them.
这幅画的名字是Surdomute，代表的是听不见和不能说话的人。这幅画的主题是我们应该帮助残疾人，而不是伤害他们。
There is a girl with white hair in the drawing is the representative of surdomutes. She use a piece of silk to cover her eyes because people in the world always see her strangely. She give up the last sense that she have to escape away from the reality. The dark blue, purple and green in the background of the painting represents her world, rocks in red, orange and yellow throwing to her represent others' harmful opinions to her. However, there are still several shooting stars around the rocks represents people who can really understand them.

Rose Manor—— Pre 2C Iris
The title of this painting is《Rose Manor》. It depicts a rose manor in the rain. You can see the grass, the raindrops and roses in this artwork. I used a lot of saturated colours to make the picture more artistic. But the use of brush stoke and composition of the painting still needs to improved. Because brushstroke is an important factor to change the effect of painting.
这幅画的名字是Rose Manor。它描绘了雨中的玫瑰庄园，你可以在这件艺术品中看到草地、雨滴和玫瑰。我使用了很多饱和的颜色来使这幅画更具艺术性，但画笔的使用和构图仍然需要改进，因为笔触是改变绘画效果的重要因素。
In the creative process，I learned the importance of the light and dark relationship of color to the composition and layout. The light and dark contrast allows the eye to focus on the main theme at one glance, rather than on the scattered pieces. The main point of the painting is the roses，also，it seems like closer to me. After the teacher's guidance, I went to the Internet to check the rose language, meaning eternal love and courage .It reminds me of a few roses I can see in the vase when I get home every weekend .

Aries—— Pre 2C Iris
This is a self-portrait, I use my constellation as the theme, people usually see Aries as enthusiastic，but the difference is that many people who just get to know me think I am hard to approach, but the truth is just the opposite, so I use sunflower to express my inner world. I also want to convey through this painting: if you want to really understand a person, give up your inherent thinking ,try to look at it from multiple angles.
这是一幅自画像，我以我的星座为主题，人们通常认为白羊座很热情，但不同的是，很多刚认识我的人认为我很难接近，但事实恰恰相反。因此，我用向日葵来表达我的内心世界，我也想通过这幅画来传达一个观点：如果你想真正了解一个人，请放弃你的固有思维，试着从多个角度去了解。
Arrival—— Pre 2A Peter
My work is called Arrival. This work is inspired by some religious concepts. The theme of this work is dark and mysterious. I want to show a mysterious and dark image through this work - a dragon man's child broke an egg. Its vague image aggravates the mystery of this work and forms a heavier contrast with the broken dragon egg carefully drawn below him. I put the Dragon child in the middle to emphasize the focus of the picture，and make it higher than the center to enhance his sense of rise.
我的作品叫做Arrival，它受到一些宗教观念的启发。这部作品的主题是黑暗而神秘的。我想通过这件作品展现一个神秘而黑暗的形象——一个龙人的孩子打碎了一个鸡蛋。其模糊的形象加剧了这部作品的神秘感，并与在他身下精心绘制的碎龙蛋形成了更强烈的对比。我把龙孩子放在中间，强调画面的焦点，使其高于中心，以增强他的上升感。
In terms of color, I choose to gradually deepen the color from outside to inside in the background. I use dark red to transition the black on the edge, add orange in the center to connect the preceding and the following, and highlight the central content of the picture, so as to form a visual impact.

Different from the background, I choose to use bright yellow and flesh color to draw dragon children. The elegant blond hair and comfortable flesh color show its beautiful and friendly feeling, just like an angel, but it will not be so credible under the fuzzy outline. Its purple wings and double corners make it look like a devil. This sense of contradiction is the effect I want to reflect on him. Rising from a purple green hybrid egg can better reflect the feeling of coming to the world to meet the theme.

Sunset by the Sea—— Pre 2A Jeffrey
The subject of my painting is "Sunset by the Sea". Most of the colors I use are warm, so it looks comfortable. When I was preparing this painting, my first inspiration was the setting sun. What I need to improve is to be able to add more 3D elements. My painting tells the story of the evening when the fishing boats began to return, and the setting sun lit up the mountains behind them. In this painting, the sea is the nearest to me, and the sun, which seems most obvious, is the farthest. In this work, the most memorable is the golden sun and mountains.

The Wanted Person—— Pre 2C Hannah
The name of my art work is The Wanted Person.
我的艺术作品的名字是The Wanted Person。
My painting is made of propylene. I used watercolor more before, but I think the basic principle and use method of acrylic, watercolor and gouache are similar, and this is my first attempt to draw characters with color.
我的画是用丙烯制成的。我以前用水彩比较多，但我认为丙烯酸颜料、水彩和水粉的基本原理和使用方法很相似，这是我第一次尝试用颜色画人物。
The reason why I painted this picture came from an inspiration. That day I was playing collage with stickers. I had a whim. What would happen if I changed the material into a newspaper or a missing person notice? For example, a figure that says "have you seen this person?" or other words. So I drew the handsome cowboy wanted on the drawing board.

At the end, I was thinking hard about how to make the painting more retro. Tata taught me to brush the painting with white. This is what I find most interesting and learn most.

The City of Music—— Pre 2C Hannah
The name of my work of art is The City of Music. It tells a story. Once upon a time, there was a city where people loved art and music. They built the building on the surface of the guitar. But one day, something mysterious came to the city. It destroyed the city and people had to move the building to the interior of the guitar.
我的艺术作品的名字是The City of Music。它讲述了一个故事：从前，有一个城市的人们热爱艺术和音乐。他们在吉他的表面上建造了这座建筑。但有一天，一些神秘的物种来到了这个城市，它摧毁了城市，人们因此不得不把建筑物搬到吉他的内部。
My work uses a lot of discarded items, including guitar. I'm also a recycled second-hand product. I used foam boards to make houses，and used discard discs and Lego blocks to decorate and use acrylic to color. The most interesting thing about this work is that I colored some buildings (Interior) with invisible ink so that they can glow under the irradiation of purple lights.

The idea of my work is environmental protection. Including my material selection, it also has the color of environmental protection. I hope to use my works to warn you that we must protect the earth's environment and natural resources, just as the old city was destroyed by mysteries.
