The two pie charts compare the energy produced from five sources, including ‘other’, for the years 1995 and 2005 in France.
Overall, coal and gas were the dominant sources of energy, with petroleum related energy generation third, and nuclear and ‘other’ making up the remainder.
In 1995, coal stood at 29.8% and gas at 29.63%, and likewise for 2005 had roughly the same share; however, they had slightly increased compared to 1995 to just over 30% with coal continuing to be the top source of energy. Petroleum, though remaining as the third most used resource for energy production in 2005, had seen a decrease of about 10% compared to ten years prior, to come in at 19.55%. This in turn saw a 4% increase in nuclear power and a 5% increase in ‘other’ energy creation in 2005 in relation to 1995.
Coal and gas made up a combined 61.24% share of the total energy production market for France in 2005, with petroleum seeing the only decrease in use.
