对于绝大多数男生来讲，女生的很多行为都很迷。
而其中最迷的几个之一应该就包括：
为什么需要那么多包？
为什么需要那么多名牌包？
为什么需要那么多差不多的名牌包？
在大部分男生看来，包包就是个装东西的地方，能够把所有需要的东西放进去就好了；当然，如果这个包好看一点当然更好。
但总体来说，不需要那么多。
而且那些大牌包包还常常不太实用。
但女生们依旧对“包治百病”的游戏乐此不疲。
其实吧，这个问题是一个经济学和心理学的跨界问题：
The phenomena that explains most if not all of this activity is what ec onomists call "signaling." The concept behind signaling is simple.
有一个现象基本可以解释这种行为，那就是经济学家所说的“发信号”。这个现象背后的原理很简单。
In just about any market, a person or product may use a specific feature or attribute to signal to a potential buyer or seller something about themselves.
在几乎所有的市场中，一个人或者一个产品都会用某种特征来对潜在的买家/卖家发出信号，以体现自己的身份定位。
总结来说就是：
这些包包的主要作用并不是装东西，而是用来表明“我是谁”、“我的价值观是什么”、“我崇尚什么样的生活方式”。
其实这种现象并不只局限于包包啦，它在我们的生活中无处不在。
比如，我们都知道，即使是在世界顶尖的那些名校里，各个专业的水平差距也是很大的；但人们普遍会对名校学历高看一眼，而不太会去关心这个人在那个学校学的是不是弱势专业。
硅谷的一些公司在融资的时候可能会单纯追求大数额，而这个钱可能完全超出了他们现阶段所需的金额，但这种新闻放出去之后会让人们觉得这个公司更重要。
此外，还有一种很多男性都很热衷的东西：名车。
So~ 女孩子们为什么那么喜欢买包呢？
其实买的不是包本身，而是一种符号。
I saw a lady in the subway station today.
今天，我在地铁站看到一位女士。
She was quarreling with the security guard, because she was not willing to put her handbag into the security inspector.
她正在和保安争吵着，因为她不想把她的包包放进安检机。
"It's expensive!" she shouted, "The machine's gonna scratch it!"
“这很贵的！”她喊叫到，“机器会把它刮花的”
I noticed the logo on that handbag when I passed by.
当我从她身边经过的时候，我注意到了包上的logo。
Yeah, it was of a luxury brand and looked quite new.
嗯，的确是一个奢侈品品牌，而且包包看起来很新。
And judging from the lady's reaction, I guess it's authentic.
而从这位女士的反映来看，这包应该是正品。
But if you check out the lady's other items and her behavior, it's not so difficult to see that her income may not be very high.
不过，再看看她身上的其他东西，以及她的举止，不难看出她的收入应该不是特别高。
So it's highly probable that the handbag really cost her a fortune, maybe the money she saved from her every meal.
所以，这个包对她来说很可能是一笔很大的开销，可能是她从每顿饭中省下来的钱。
And apparently it was also costing her this precious commuting time and at the same time her good mood.
而且显然，这个包不光花了她的钱，还在消耗她宝贵的通勤时间以及她的好心情。
"Sad." I thought.
“悲哀呀。”我当时想。
My mother once told me: "Never buy anything that you can't really afford to use."
我妈妈曾经对我说：“永远不要买你用不起的东西。”
It's not only about money. It's about everything that you give up for it.
这不光是关于钱，而是关于你为这件东西付出的一切。
I'm totally happy with my handbag that I bought online. It's not expensive. It's not of any luxury brand. But it's of great quality and designed in just the way I like it.
我本人就觉得自己在网上买的这个包挺好的。它不是名牌，但质量很好，而且正是我喜欢的设计。
That's enough.

When you buy things to use, you own the things.
当你买东西来用的时候，你就拥有了这件东西。
When you buy things to worship, they own you.
而当你买东西来崇拜时，是这件东西拥有了你。
And I don't want to pay to be a slave.
而我，并不想花钱去成为一个奴隶。
