“高考”用英语怎么说？
高考 (gaokao) 指中华人民共和国全国普通高等学校招生入学考试 (National Higher Education Entrance Examination) ，也叫全国大学入学考试 (National College Entrance Examination) ，是中国大陆一年一度 (annual) 的学业考试(academic examination)。
相当于美国SAT考试，即SAT Reasoning Test，以前叫 Scholastic Assessment Test 与 Scholastic Aptitude Test .
该考试几乎是进入所有高等学校 (higher education institution) 本科阶段 (undergraduate level) 学习的必要条件，决定了一个人一生的职业轨迹。
1977年恢复了高考，此后一直延续到现在。*革文**后的第一次高考是历史性事件 (history-making event) 。考生 (examinee) 年龄与正规教育背景不受限制。高考由各省出题，最后全国只有百分之一的考生升入大学。1978年开始，教育部 (Ministry of Education) 开始统一命题 (the examination is uniformly designed) ，所有考生都参加一样的考试。
高考结束后我们将面临人生重要选择，填报志愿 （college application） 。
“第一志愿”可以说成“first choice”，“一本”可以说成“the first batch of universities”。
举例：Beijing has also combined its first and second batches of universities for students to apply, but allows students to apply to up to 16 universities and 6 majors at each. 北京也将本科一批、二批合并，设置16所平行志愿高校，每个志愿高校设置6个志愿专业。
