One day, a man named Zhaoda passed a tea shop, carrying a carriage of firewood. He stopped, parked the carriage outside the shop, sat down and asked for a cup of tea. After drinking the cup of tea, he saw bright light shining outside the shop. He went out and saw his carriage of firewood was burning, the fire was getting stronger and stronger. “Help, help”. Zhaoda cried, and went back inside the shop, taking a cup of tea, and threw a cup of water to the burning carriage. Hearing his crying, other people all threw their cups`of water to the fire. But the fire wasn’t put out. On the contrary, it got more and more heavy in the wind, till the whole firewood turned to ash. Afterwards, people called this story “ cup of water in fire fighting”.

This idiom is to say that, power or force is too weak to solve problems or troubles.
