1、迎灶神送火神
根据我国古代的神话故事，大年初四是诸神由天界重临人间之时。自古就有“送神早，接神迟”之说，所谓送神要一大清早就开始，而接神放在下午也未迟。供品方面，三牲、水果、酒菜要齐备，还要焚香点烛烧金衣。老板若想将某人“炒鱿鱼”，此日就不请他来拜神。（汉族民间祭祀灶神的历史十分悠久。魏晋以后，灶神有了姓名。隋杜台卿《玉烛宝典》引《灶书》称，“灶神，姓苏，名吉利，妇名博颊”。冀中地区供张奎、高兰英。）祭灶神寄托了汉族劳动人民一种祛邪、避灾、祈福的美好愿望。
According to folklore, it is also the day to welcome back the Kitchen God. On this day, the Kitchen God would check the household and therefore people should not leave home.
2、接五路
本指接五路行神，后来演变成接五路财神。旧时商家春节休假后，一般都在大年初四晚上接请五路财神，初五开市，以图吉利。备好祭牲、糕果、香烛等物，并鸣锣击鼓焚香礼拜，虔诚恭敬迎东、西、南、北、中五路财神。（目前，中国民众供奉的财神主要有七位，分别是：北朝时期河北曲周县令李诡祖，端木赐（子贡：儒商之祖）、范蠡（浙商）、管仲（徽商）、白圭（晋商）、关公（关帝阁）、比干（文财神、冀商之祖）、财帛星君、赵公明。）

3、吃“折罗”
按照中国的传统习俗，大年初四这一天全家人会聚在一起吃“折罗”。（张寿臣《化蜡千儿》：“老太太晌午吃的散伙面，晚上吃的折罗。”可见，折罗意指宴会吃剩的饭菜。在寻常百姓家，正月初一到初三期间的剩饭菜便称为“折罗”。吃“折罗”体现了我们人民群众艰苦奋斗、勤俭节约的好习惯。“历览前贤国与家，成由勤俭败由奢。”我们国家勤劳节俭的美好品德也将代代相传。

4、“扔穷”
清扫室内，把垃圾收集堆到一处，这也是汉族民俗中说的“扔穷。

5、三羊开泰
初四则和俗语“三羊开泰”有关，意思是岁首吉利就预示着岁末幸福。

禁忌
1、不宜远出
灶王爷要点查户口，所以家家户户都要守在家里，准备丰富的果品，焚香点烛并施放鞭炮，以示恭迎，所以不宜远出。
It is not advisable to go far from the stove to check the account, so every household must stay at home, prepare fruit, burn incense and set off firecrackers to show welcome, so it is not appropriate to go far.
2、不宜用针线
从初一到初四，商店闭门歇业，妇女不能用针线。
From the first day to the fourth day, the shops are closed and women can not use needles and thread.
