FYI, for those that are curious as to why dribbling looked so bad, it was because, at the time, if the hand wasn’t directly on top of the ball, it would be called palming. Thus no crazy crossovers or anything like that.

Anyone who tells me that players from that era can be ranked as high as the more recent greats can suck a weiner. I’m sorry but their skills and technique are nowhere close to the players of today. Sure they had X amount of titles, all star games, all nba’s etc. but videos like this has me believing otherwise

Let me help you homey. They don’t know basketball history. To be more specific they had to dribble with their hand ON TOP of the ball otherwise it would be a carry. Now, all you NBA 2K VC Kings over here. Grab a basketball and try to cross it over without putting your hand to the side of the ball...tough right? Now put a defender in front of you and do that. Impossible without a turnover. Thats why Cousy turns his back to switch hands in this clip. Within the rules that was the only way he could’ve avoided a turnover and crossed over the ball while being face up with a defender.

Despite what some of y’all may want to believe, his low dribble close to the ground in this clip is high level ball handling in THAT ERA. He’s slapping the ball, with a flat hand, because that’s what the rules allowed at the time. There were no Kyrie/A.I./Jamal Crawford type moves back then because you couldn’t. Nobody was hitting the Sham God in the 40’s.
