什么是传神翻译？
文学翻译贵在“传神”。所谓“传神”，就是把原文的意思表达得非常准确，意境展现得非常逼真、鲜活，让人读后产生一种拍案叫绝的冲动。 要实现这一目标，除了具备深厚的语言功底，学习和掌握一定的翻译技巧也是非常有益的。

怎样翻译下面的英语句子？怎样翻译才比较传神？
There had also been extensive security and morals checks, “background investigations” as they are called, which had gotten all skeletons out of their closets.

美国国家航空航天局在1959年选出了首批七位宇航员，他们都是一些什么样的人呢？他们又是如何选出来的呢？以下是作者的描述：

难点分析和翻译技巧：
这里的难点在于 which had gotten all skeletons out of their closets 的准确理解和翻译，以及整个句子的传神展现。
其实，英语里有一个习惯用语“skeletons in the closet”。如果你对此不了解，可从下面两个途径入手来解决：
（1） 把 gotten all skeletons out of their closets 直接输入到美国网上词典Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary（https://www.merriam-webster.com）的搜索框，点击搜索标志或回车。词典会说“你输入的词条未收录，请尝试下面建议的词条”（见下面的截屏）：
此时，你点击建议的词条“skeletons in the closet”就可以查到它的释义了。
（2） 把 skeletons 输入到该词典的检索框后，词典立刻显示出和该词相关的所有词条，包括“skeletons in the/someone's closet”和“skeletons in the closet”（见下面的截屏）：
此时，你点击其中一个就可以查到它的释义了。
Skeletons in the/someone's closet : something bad or embarrassing that happened in someone's past and that is kept secret （某人在过去发生且一直保密的不好或令人难堪的事）
试译：
他们也没有心理或精神上的问题，因为他们与心理医生的互动，孤身承受冰冷黑夜或炙热烤箱的能力，都异常详细地展示在公众之下。 还有深入细致的安全和道德方面的审查（NASA把这些称为“背景调查”），他们所有不愿示人的秘密被扒个底朝天。
这里的“ 他们所有不愿示人的秘密被扒个底朝天 ”就非常传神地展现了原文的意境。
