英伟达新推出的RTX系列对于Adobe的使用者来说并没有很大的吸引力,但是对于DaVinci Resolve使用者来说,RTX系列的表现相比GTX 1080 Ti高出50%,RTX显卡体现了两个未来的趋势:Tensor cores 和 RT cores.
NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX series GPUs are not only faster but include 2 major new features never seen before in consumer level cards: Tensor Cores and RT Cores. It is because of these new features that the future looks good for Adobe and Blackmagic software video editing. Even if right now there is not that much improvement in rendering times.

什么是Tensor Cores??
最初的时候只有在英伟达的数据中心显卡中才会提供Tensor Cores,但是目前该技术被广泛应用于主流的GTX系列显卡中,任何消费者都可以轻松地购买并体验。Tensor Cores 给予了显卡大幅度增加其计算的能力,通过一个4×4的矩阵,它完成了D=AxB + C的操作。其中A、B、C和D是4x4矩阵。输入A和B是FB16矩阵,而累积矩阵C和D可以是FP16或FB32(见下图),这使得Tensor Cores在RTX显卡中的FP16上的运行达到不可思议的110TFLOPS(GTX 1080显卡为17.8TFLOPS)。Tensor Core技术主要被应用于人工智能,这也是当下AI如此风靡的原因。Tensor Cores大幅增加了矩阵运算的速度,除了新的神经图形函数之外,它还被用于深度学习训练和推理操作。总而言之,这项新技术使我们看到了显卡性能的显著提升。
What are Tensor Cores?
Originally only available in NVIDIA’s Datacenter GPUs, Tensor Cores have now arrived on the mainstream GeForce GPUs that any consumer can buy off the shelf. Tensor Cores allow the GPU to dramatically increase its computing power. It does this by operating on a 4x4 matrix while operating the following operation; D=AxB + C, where A,B,C and D are 4x4 matrices. The inputs A and B are FB16 matrices, while accumulation matrices C and D can be FP16 or FB32. (see image below)
This is what allows the Tensor Cores in the RTX cards to run at an incredible 110 TFLOPS at FP16 (the GTX 1080 runs at 17.8 TFLOPS). Tensor Core technology is mostly used for artificial intelligence applications and have been one reason the current Ai boom is so strong. Tensor Cores provide a significant speed upgrade to matrix operations and are used for both deep learning and inference operations in addition to new neural graphics functions. So, with this new technology we should see a significant improvement in GPU performance.

Are Tensor Cores useful when doing Video Editing?
The appearance of Ai dedicated technology on consumer level cards was a shock to many. Many software companies including BlackMagic (Davinci Resolve 15) have already announced that they are working to implement Ai interfacing for graphical enhancement. It is not yet clear what the plans are for Adobe. However, even if the Tensor Cores are fully integrated it is not going to improve export times or even video playback since those actions do not use AI interfacing(yet). When being used for auto masking, denoiser or even color matching the AI interfacing will show a massive improvement.

What are RT Cores?
The RT in RTX and RT Cores stands for Ray-tracing. It is the inclusion of these cores that makes the RTX series of GPUs so unique. Ray-tracing is a technique for generating an image by tracing the path of light through pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects. In the computer-generated graphics, we have seen in the past, artists and programmers have used a technique called rasterization. This is because although older versions of GPUs could do Ray-tracing, it was always too intensive of a process to run full time simulations and would often take hours if not days to finish a scene. Ray-tracing can produce a much more realistic simulation of lighting effects and the inclusion of cores specifically engineered to run Ray-tracing calculations real time, 72 cores to be precise, is a massive break through.

Are RT Cores useful when doing Video Editing?
The Ray-tracing cores introduced into this new generation of cards are only used for ray-tracing. As such, it will be possible to use the RT-cores for visual effects and motion graphics in the future. Therefore, the new features of the RTX GPU are clearly important for anyone looking to future-proof their new workstation. When the developers add support for ray-tracing cores your workstation will already be primed to take advantage of the new technology. Right now, however, it is not clear exactly when Adobe or Blackmagic will fully implement these new technologies. We have taken the time to still run tests and benchmarks on the new cards as they would be used today for creators and artists running these programs.

RTX 2080 8GB是否适用于视频编辑?

Is the RTX 2080 8GB worth it?
Using the RTX for video editing software you are not going to see a difference between it and the older GTX series GPUs. The data shows that the VRAM is a larger factor in video editing applications. Therefore. we see the 8GB of VRAM really hold the RTX 2080 back in this benchmark. Since Blackmagic’s Resolve 15 will use Tensor and RT cores in a future update, and we expect Adobe to do this as well the only reason to buy these cards for video editing is future proofing a new workstation instead of upgrading a current one.
RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB适合用于视频编辑吗?

Is the RTX 2080 Ti 11GB worth it?
Even though Adobe has not shown any improvement using the new technology, we would still future proof a new workstation with this card. DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic however shows a massive improvement and even performs above the much more expensive Titan V. For people using Blackmagic for video editing it is a good investment to upgrade any workstations to this card.

Consumers who need to build new workstations and not only upgrade existing workstations are recommend choosing the new GeForce RTX graphics card, as updates from Adobe and Blackmagic will surely use the new cores.
