Founded in the early 15th century, St Andrews is Scotland’s first university and the third oldest in the English speaking world. Teaching began in the community of St Andrews in 1410, and the University was formally constituted by the issue of a papal bull in 1413.

The different elements of the University shield represent the insignia of the founders of the University.
The crescent moon represents Peter de Luna, the given name of Pope Benedict XIII who issued the bulls of foundation of the University in 1413.
The lion rampant is taken from the royal arms of Scotland and represents the royal authority of King James I (1406–1437) who was associated with the foundation.
The gold diamonds (mascles or) are taken from the personal arms of Henry Wardlaw, Bishop of St Andrews 1404–1440 who issued the original charter which incorporated the Studium Generale in 1411 or 1412.
The open book with the red page edges represents learning.
The blue and silver cross represents the saltire of Scotland.

St Salvator's Chapel
The hub of life in Scotland's oldest University, the chapel is a rare and beautiful example of Late Gothic architecture. Founded in 1450 as a part of Bishop James Kennedy's College of the Holy Saviour, the Chapel of St Salvator has had a long and varied history.

St Leonard’s Chapel
St Leonard’s College was founded in 1512 by Archbishop Alexander Stewart and Prior John Hepburn. It was intended for the education of novices of the Augustinian Order and was administered by the Priory. Students were educated in arts and theology, under the academic supervision of the University. The College disassociated itself from the Priory in 1545.
In 1579, the Colleges of St Leonard and St Salvator (founded 1450) were reconstituted as colleges of arts and philosophy, while teaching at St Mary’s College (founded 1538) focused on theology.

A-Level: ABB to A*A*A
International Baccalaureate (IB): 36 (HL 6,5,5) to 38 (HL 6,6,6 plus SL 6,6,6)
AP: Three subjects with scores of 4+ and 5 in required subjects.
SAT Subject tests: Three subject tests with minimum scores of 650 with 700 and above in required subjects.
ACT score of 28+ (writing optional). Applicants are welcome to submit all of their ACT test scores. We will consider the highest scores submitted for each section across multiple testing dates.
SAT: We will accept both the SAT Reasoning Test and the Redesigned SAT Test. SAT Reasoning test: Redesigned SAT Test (essay optional): Score of 1320.
