As a foreigner, I have come to accept that my Mandarin is a work in progress. I half expect that every time I open my mouth when talking to a Chinese friend they will raise an eyebrow and respond with the dreaded 听不懂.
作为一个外国人，我开始接受，我的中文仍需努力。我原以为，我只会在开口与中国朋友讲话的时候，他们会挑起眉毛，用可怕的“听不懂”回应我。
But I’ll never forget the day I went out with a friend from the UK. She was telling me a story from her recent trip home. It all started when she said something about a “tube”. From there, it was just all down hill. I was completely lost; I mean, I had no idea what this chick was talking about. She went on for about a minute before I had to stop her and bashfully admit, 我不明白.

Thankfully, we had a good laugh about it, and I continue to have a good time making fun of the differences between American and British English.

Since I’ve already established that my English English is completely subpar, I’ve asked one of my British friends to help me demonstrate some of the differences in speech.

Tube vs. Subway

Rubber在英式英语中，指橡皮擦，而美式英语中，则有避孕套的意思
Jumper vs. Sweater

Hannah: That jumper looks lovely on you.

Dodgy vs. Sketchy
狡猾的
Hannah: That bloke over there is well dodgy.
汉娜：那边那个家伙非常狡猾。
Ash: That guy is so sketchy! I don't trust him a bit.

Sleeping Policeman vs. Speed Bump

Hannah: The council is putting down sleeping policemen on this road.
