人工镀膜仿天然红玛瑙手链(收于2016年)镀膜俗称"穿衣",是用一些无色或有色的薄膜状物质均匀附着于饰物表面以改变颜色、增强光洁度和掩盖表面坑、裂、擦痕等缺陷的技术。常见的表面处理技术有表面涂覆法、表面镀膜法,底层贴箔法,表面离子植入法、高温化学扩散法和表面宝石生长法(也叫附生法)。

表面涂覆法常用的原料为蜡、油漆无色清漆及混有染料的各种树脂涂层。表面镀膜法是将欲镀膜成品放在真空镀膜机的底板上,产生薄膜的金属片放在阴极上,先抽真空然后用触发器触发阴极引起阳极和阴极间的弧光放电,从而将阴极(金属)材料蒸发到放电室中形成等离子态被镀覆到成品表面形成薄膜;常用的材料有金属金、镍、铜、铬等。底层贴箔法指采用薄膜或一薄片状的金属或有机物粘贴到宝石的底面。表面离子植入法是利用金属蒸汽真空弧等设备产生的高能高速离子植入到成品表面及很浅的表层的方法。高温化学扩散法是将样品与致色剂放在一起用高温加热的方法使珠宝玉石处于软化状态,让致色离子扩散到珠宝玉石表面及表层的方法。表面宝石生长法最常用的方法为"水热法宝石生长方法"和"助熔剂法宝石生长方法。
