where 和 in which的区别

当先行词是表地点, in which与where是相等的.

The house where I live is beautibul =The house in which I live is beautibul

• 在这种情况中，若in提前,只能用which,就不能用where.

  1例如;The house in( which ) I live is beautibul

  2再如:The house ( which ) I live in is beautibul.

当定语从句带有不定式时，只能用 “in+which” 不能用 where

• I live in a house in which to spend my rest life. 不能用 I live in a house where to spend my rest life.

wherein和where的区别

相比where，wherein与in which 类似。

一般情况下，where更多的用于连接前面为“地点或者地方”的先行词；而wherein则不仅可以连接前面为“地方或地点”的先行词，还可以链接“状况，情况。。。”等多种性质的先行词。简单的说wherein可以修饰的先行词更广。

例如：

1. the trial court held a bench 【trial】 wherein the Engineer was the sole witness.

2. a blank scroll supplied a 【space】 wherein the recipient's name could be engraved

3. He recalled one 【interview】 wherein a high level executive experienced such a change in his family status

4. The most successful fashion photographs are 【those】wherein the photographer has a rapport with a particular model

5. That includes asymmetrical 【gameplay】, wherein what you see on the GamePad isn't what you see on your television

从这5个例句中，可以看出wherein可以连接修饰的先行词性质十分广泛，只要是其中文意思“其中”在句中能够说的通，则都可以用wherein。

而这是where不能达到的，比如例3句，如果我们用where，He recalled one 【interview】 where a high level executive experienced such a change in his family status. 这就非常奇怪，这里就感觉interview成了一个地点； 再者例4句，The most successful fashion photographs are 【those】where， those后面用where，同样有这种感觉those成了一个地方了，这显然也是不合适的。
