-Hello and welcome to 6 Minute Vocabulary — the show that teaches you how to study vocabulary. I'm Finn. . . -And I'm Alice. Hello.

-欢迎收听六分钟词汇——教你如何学习词汇的节目,我是费恩。-我是爱丽丝。

Today's show is all about fashion.

本期节目的主题是时尚。

Ahh, fashion. What to wear. . .

时尚。该穿什么......

And what not to wear. And today we're going to listen to some people talking about what to wear to a social occasion. . .

不该穿什么。今天我们将听到一些人讨论在特定场合的穿着。

And we'll look at a very important area of vocabulary: the difference between adjectives and adverbs.

这期我们学的是词汇中十分重要的一部分——形容词和副词的区别。

We'll have a quiz to test what we've learnt. . . And we'll give you a top tip to help you learn more vocabulary.

学完之后有个小测试......我们还会教你一个十分有用的词汇学习妙招。

So let's get started — with a conversation.

那我们从一个对话开始吧。

Mike and Sarah are getting ready to go to a party, but they have very different ideas about what Mike should wear.

麦克和莎拉正在为派对做准备,但是他们对麦克的穿着持不同意见。

While you listen, try to answer this question. What does Mike wear to the party?

听录音回答问题。麦克会穿什么去参加派对?

Let's find out.

来听听看吧。

You're not seriously going to the party dressed like that!

你不会真的要穿成这样去派对吧!

You'll be the most scruffily-dressed man there.

你会是穿的最邋遢的那个的。

The invitation said casual, so I'm dressing casually: jeans and a T-shirt. What's wrong with that?

邀请函上写的穿便装,我穿的很随意啊,牛仔裤加T恤,没毛病啊。

It's too scruffy: the invitation said smart-casual. You need to wear something much smarter, Mike.

太邋遢了。邀请函说的是穿休闲装。你应该穿的更时髦点,麦克。

What, a suit?

怎么,难道要穿西装吗?

No, that's too formal — it's not a job interview. Just wear a nice fashionable shirt.

不是的,那也太正式了,又不是去面试。穿件时尚点的衬衫行不。

But I hate fashion. I can't dress fashionably. I'm the most unfashionable person I know.

但是我讨厌时尚,我没法穿出时尚感,据我所知自己就是最不时尚的人了。

Well, you'll be the only one in a T-shirt.

那样的话你会是唯一一个穿T恤的人了。

OK, you win. I'll wear my black shirt and the smart shoes. But I'm still wearing my jeans.

好吧,你赢了。我会穿黑衬衫和休闲鞋,但是牛仔裤我还是要穿的。

If you must.

如果你坚持这样的话。

You're listening to bbclearningenglish. com.

你正在收听BBC学习英语网站。

So, did you hear what Mike wore to the party in the end?

你听到最后麦克说穿什么去派对了吗?

Yes. He wore a black shirt, jeans, and his smart shoes.

听到了。他穿黑衬衫,牛仔裤和休闲鞋。

Well done if you got that right.

答对了的话很不错哦。

Now, let's take a closer look at some of the fashion-related vocabulary we heard there — starting with some of the adjectives.

现在我们仔细看看一些听到的和时尚有关的词汇,首先来看看形容词吧。

Yes and of course adjectives are words which describe nouns, and there were lots of adjectives describing people and their clothes.

形容词是用来形容名词的,有很多可以用来描述人和他们的衣着。

-Sarah thinks Mike is scruffy. -Which means not neat or clean.

-莎拉认为麦克太邋遢。-意思是不整洁或不干净。

-But Mike wants to be casual. -Informal and comfortable.

-但是麦克想随意一些。-非正式且舒适的。

-She thinks he should be smart. -Nice and stylish.

-她认为他应该衣着时髦。-高档且有型。

-But not too formal. -Old-fashioned and serious.

-但又不过于正式。-过时且庄重。

-And she wants him to wear something fashionable. -New and stylish.

-她还想让他穿的时尚些。-新潮有型。

Now, we can change these words into adverbs — words that describe verbs.

现在,我们把这些词换成副词——形容动词的单词。

And Mike and Sarah used lots of adverbs to describe the way people dress.

麦克和莎拉用了很多副词来形容穿着。

We heard: scruffily, casually, smartly, formally and fashionably.

我们听到了邋遢地,随意地,时髦地,正式地还有时尚地。

Yes. And because they are adverbs, they all end in the letters 'l-y'.

由于它们是副词,所以都以 ly 结尾。

Here are some clips from the conversation. Listen out for adverbs which describe the verb dress.

以下是对话中的一些片段。听听用于描述动词“穿”的副词。

You'll be the most scruffily-dressed man there.

你会是穿着最邋遢的人。

So I'm dressing casually. Jeans and a T-shirt. I can't dress fashionably.

我穿着随意。牛仔裤加T恤。我没法穿着时尚。

And coming up soon is our vocabulary quiz: but first, let's have a quick recap of today's fashion-related vocabulary.

接下来的是词汇小测试,首先我们来简要回顾一下今天学的关于时尚的一些词汇。

First we had some adjectives.

首先是形容词。

Scruffy, casual, smart, formal, fashionable.

邋遢的,随意的,时髦的,正式的,时尚的。

And then we looked at some adverbs.

然后是副词。

Scruffily, casually, smartly, formally, fashionably.

邋遢地,随意地,时髦地,正式地,时尚地。

And now: it's quiz time.

现在是测试时间。

And that brings us to the end of today's show, so we'll leave you with today's top tip for learning vocabulary, which is, Finn. . .

这样的话,本期节目就快要结束了。今天的词汇学习小妙招是,芬恩......

To help you remember how to use adjectives and adverbs, it's a really good idea to write down example sentences.

为了帮助自己记住怎样使用形容词和副词,写例句是个很好的办法。

Example sentences will help you use words more accurately than if you just note down the word with a translation.

例句可以比记词义更能帮助你准确的使用单词。
