Just as it was leaving, Mr. Taylor rushed out and ran after it throwing ashtrays and vases, but it was impossible to stop the thieves. They had got away with thousands of pounds worth of diamonds.

一个窃贼被一尊很重的雕像击中，但由于他忙着抢钻石首饰，竟连疼痛都顾不上了。这场抢劫只持续了3分钟，因为窃贼争先恐后地爬上轿车，以惊人的速度开跑了。就在轿车离开的时候，泰勒先生从店里冲了出来，跟在车后追赶，一边还往车上扔烟灰缸、花瓶。但他已无法抓住那些窃贼了。他们已带着价值数千镑的首饰逃之夭夭了。

（1）句型分析

One of the thieves was struck by a heavy statue, but he was too busy helping himself to diamonds to notice any pain.

前面的分句是一个被动句，不多讲，后面by引出了动作的发起者。

后面的分句

but he was too busy (helping himself to diamonds) to notice any pain.

我这样划分，大家就比较容易看懂，去年括号里内容，就是明显的too … to的用法，太…以至于…

原话就是he was too busy to notice any pain.他太忙了，以至于他没有注意到疼痛。

help oneself to 则表示“窃取，随意拿”的意思。

比如朋友来你家做客，你可以说：

Please, help yourself to anything in the fridge.冰箱里的东西自己拿。

（2）有关all的常用词组

①at all 用于强调和加强语气

This is of no value at all. 这毫无价值。

If you do it at all, do it well. 如果你要做这件事，就要做得好。

②after all 毕竟、终究

After all, he may be right. 归根结底，他可能是对的。

③all the time 一直

The information world is changing all the time. 信息世界一直在变。

④all in all 总得来说

All in all, it was a success. 总得来说，这是成功的。

⑤all over 完全、处处、浑身

She is looking for you all over.她正到处找你。
